There are a lot of applications available on the iPhone that photographers can make use of. Recently I started playing with three of the HDR applications that are on the App Store to see what kind of results I could get with them. I must say right upfront that you should not expect the kind [...]

Last week I woke up real early (roughly 3:30am) to get a shot of Space Shuttle Endeavour lifting off from Kennedy Space Center on the last scheduled night launch for the shuttle fleet. It was an absolutely beautiful launch! I’ve seen countless launches since they started in the early 80’s but each one I see [...]

I was given the opportunity to attend the HDR workshop instructed by Trey Ratcliff and Scott Bourne yesterday in Tampa, Florida. If you don’t recognize those names, you should. Trey Ratcliff is the man behind the most popular travel photography blog Stuck In Customs and is the author of the latest HDR photography book to [...]

One of the things that I have been wanting for a long while is to shoot with studio quality strobes outside of the studio while on location for a photo shoot. The only problem is that there is usually no power available where I am shooting or the power there isn’t good enough to trust [...]

An alternative model is any model that does not fit into the conventional model types, and may include emo, punk, goth, fetish, tattooed models or having a distinctive attribute. These mix with high fashion and art models. Publishers such as Goliath in Germany have enabled alternative models and punk photography to become known to a larger audience.

Fitness modeling centers on displaying an athletic physique. Fitness models usually have defined muscles like bodybuilders, but with less emphasis on muscle size. Their body weight is usually similar to (or heavier than) fashion models, but they have a lower body fat percentage due to increased muscle mass relative to fat mass.

Over the last few months I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the path that I’ve been following through the photography industry and where I want that path to carry me in the future. With the advent of my blog a few years ago I’ve been gaining a bit of traction in the grand [...]

Wedding photography is the photography of activities relating to weddings. It encompasses photographs of the couple before marriage (for announcements, portrait displays, or thank you cards) as well as coverage of the wedding and reception. Today, many more weddings are photographed with digital SLR cameras as the digital convenience provides quick detection of lighting mistakes and allows creative approaches to be reviewed immediately.

A portrait is a painting, photograph, sculpture, or other artistic representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason, in photography a portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often shows a person looking directly at the painter or photographer, in order to most successfully engage the subject with the viewer.

I’ve been working on ways to make my daily interactions with my friends and blog readers easier to manage and have decided to go with the Facebook page method. Facebook provides very good tools and features for connecting and interacting with people. I’ve had a page set up on Facebook for some time but didn’t [...]

It is hard to use any kind of software these days without hearing words like “plug-in”, “theme”, “third-party add-on”, or “mod”. These types of things have become so common place that even non-developers know what they mean. The concept is pretty simple… allow the customer or other companies to develop software that interacts with your [...]

This review has been a long time in the making and I am excited to finally getting it online. It hasn’t really been a secret that I’ve been testing some of FOBA’s newest tripod heads. This is especially true for those that have been on a photo walk with me or ran into me at [...]

I had to go up to Boston last weekend for business and decided to go up a day early so I could walk around the city with my camera. My friend Hali Sowle from Rhode Island drove up for the day to play tour guide for me. I am so glad that she did too [...]

I’ve always wanted to get some of my work printed on canvas to hang up around the house or in my office but I never really put a whole lot of effort into researching it and finding a good place to print it for me. Printing on canvas has been around for quite a [...]

Heather and I arrived in Las Vegas yesterday afternoon to attend the Photoshop World conference that starts on Thursday morning. After getting checked into the hotel we piled into a car with Vanelli, Scott Larson, and Ron Pepper to go shoot at the Valley Of Fire State Park which is to the north east of [...]

There are also some other amazing individuals that were tapped to be guest bloggers as well. Some are Photoshop World veterans and others are attending Photoshop World for [...]

On 9.22.09 I ordered 200 business cards from Mpix. I’ve used Mpix many times in the past for prints, my previous business cards, and other print related products. I’ve always been happy with them. As their website states, you upload your order tonight and they ship it tomorrow. So I ordered my cards at 8am [...]

For many years now I have been using dual monitors for my workstations both at work and at home. I have come to rely on having two monitors and really hate to work on a computer with only a single monitor. This was before widescreen LCD’s of course. I recently received a Dell S2209W LCD [...]

A friend of mine asked me to do a tutorial on how to host photos on a personal web server so that they can be linked to on a forum posting. The key is that she wants to use her own server and doesn’t want to use a photo sharing site like Flickr or Shutterbug. [...]

Many bloggers enjoy receiving feedback and community participation on their blogs but their themes neglect the displaying of comments. The default comment display format built into WordPress isn’t all that bad if it has some extra formatting help via your theme style sheet. If you don’t like the default comment display then WordPress makes it [...]

The winner for the Photomatix Pro Bundle contest has been chosen! Using a purely random number generator based on atmospheric noise (yes, I am a total geek) a random number was generated and aligned with my list of names of those who entered the contest and those that twittered about it as well. The winner [...]

I realized that I haven’t updated my Photomatix Pro software in a while so I went over to HDRSoft’s website to see what the latest version was. I found that I was many versions out of date… and one of the updates that I had missed has some major upgrades in it! As of today, [...]

When I first got started in photography I remember how I didn’t want to collaborate with any other photographers. I had this huge misconception that sharing ideas and tips somehow took away from the artistic vision of the individual. When I started shooting with my buddy Vanelli and in recent times collaborated with other photographers [...]

When I was in Tampa shooting with all my friends (I’ll be posting about the trip soon) I happened to be the only one there with a Canon D-SLR. Everyone else was sporting a fancy little point-n-shoot camera. Just kidding… they each had a Nikon D-SLR of some sort. We got to talking about shooting [...]
