Merging Images Video Tutorial: Part 1
Posted on 11. Aug, 2009 by Terry Reinert in Photography, Tutorials
Jason Anderson and I were discussing some images that he shot a few days ago of a lightning storm passing through the area he lives. We were talking about various topics like merging the images into an HDR image and so forth. It got me to thinking that the images he shot would be perfect for a video tutorial on how to merge images together the easy way. Of course there are a lot of ways to do this… but using the technique I show in this video (using layer blend modes and layer masks), I created the final image in less than 5 minutes. So, this really is the way to leverage the power of Photoshop to make your job faster and easier. Part 2 will be posted in a few days once I finish getting the video edited and rendered.
Make sure to stop by the Canon Blogger website and thank Jason for letting me use these images in the tutorial!

Hey, thanks again for the help with trying to figure it all out. You’ll see another variant on the direction in terms of exposure over there later today (Wed), but am taking some more time with it this coming weekend!

No problem on the help and thanks again for letting me use the images in the tutorial. I’ve got the clean up / finishing touches part of the tutorial recorded… I just have to go through and edit it all together. I should get that done tonight so it will be posted later tonight. We shall see though… I am really good at finding other things to do.

wow, all the tutorials I’ve done in the last year & half, I didn’t realize you could layer images like that, that were not exactly the same but with different exposures. I will be playing with this! I have Matt’s book to & I don’t remember this in there. Time to break that bad boy back out. Thanks Terry, I am looking forward to pt 2.

Thanks Terry! Very informative indeed. Can’t wait to try it when (and if) I can get some fun lightning shots of our infamous Florida storms. Paul
