News Update
Posted on 27. May, 2009 by Terry Reinert in News
I do not post news updates on a regular basis because I usually do not have many things to update everyone on but this last week has proven to be an exception to the standard. Lots of new things are going on and I figure it is time to bring anyone who cares up to speed.
- Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk
Scott Kelby announced the second annual worldwide photo walk event that will take place on July 18th, 2009. Robert Vanelli will be leading the Melbourne Photo Walk again this year and I will be joining him. Seats are limited to 50 photographers so make sure you sign up soon so you can get a spot! If you are not in the Central Florida area then checkout the full list of cities and get registered for a walk near you! You’ll have a great time.
- Lighting In Stages Tutorial
During one of our last photo shoots, Vanelli had the idea to break down the overall lighting scheme into individual lights to show what each light does for the overall image. This really helps people who are not familiar with studio lighting or using multiple strobes understand exactly what each light does and how they can get the same affect in their images. Head on over to the Exposure PAS website to see the Lighting In Stages Video Tutorial.
- Shout Out on Layers Magazine Blog
RC talked about my HDR Photography FAQ post in his latest Layers Magazine blog post. Since his post went live my visitor count jumped up by more than 200 visitors / day. Seeing my visitor count jump like that is nice but I think the main reason I am excited is because of how that post will help more people now than if RC hadn’t mentioned it. If at least one person learns something useful from any post of mine then the time spent on getting that information together was well spent. So far it has been read by over 2000 unqiue visitors and is the second most read post on my blog. Make sure you check out RC’s post on HDR Photography if you haven’t already… he presents some very good points on the topic!
- New Blog Post Series Started
Last week I kicked off two new post series on my blog; Attending Photoshop World series and WordPress series. The Attending PSW series is geared to help those that are planning on attending the Photoshop World conference get the most out of their experience. The WordPress series is going to have posts relating to customizing WordPress and getting the most from your blog.
- Hali Sowle Interview
In the near future I am going to kick off a series of photographer interviews and will be starting with Hali Sowle. Hali is a friend of mine and a very talented shooter from Rhode Island. I interviewed her last week and once I get all my notes typed up the interview will go live on the blog. My interview style is a little different than most people are used to so everyone should get a lot more out of the information presented in them.
- Google Maps
I’ve been playing with the Google Maps API the last few days and have an idea for a cool application built around Google Maps for photographers. In my free time I am going to get it all put together so expect more news on this in the near future. I think you all will love it.
- Visiting Photographer
One of my best friends from high school that I haven’t seen in at least 10 years is coming down to visit this weekend and she happens to be a photographer. She is also a fellow Canon shooter so you know she is automatically good to go in my opinion.
I am sure this weekend will be made up of lots of catching up, filled compact flash memory cards, and maybe even a few trespassing charges. Hey, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do to get the shot and a little trespassing never hurt anyone!! We are making plans to go out shooting at least one day while she is here and I am going to line up a model to do a studio shoot so Jessica can mess around with the studio lighting a bit. Check out her Flickr photostream for random photos of her travels around the world.
And that is pretty much that! Thanks for reading… Make sure to keep an eye on the blog in the near future for the next round of tutorials and series posts!

What kind of features would you be looking for? There are a few things out there for tracking your trips and posting photos from various places… its real easy if all your photos are geotagged already. I’ve got a working demo of a fully XML driven advanced application that I put together for work. That is a good stepping stone because you can generate XML using PHP and a MySQL database very easily. Still got a lot of things I want to do with the demo for work and just learning more and more about it as I go along. So I will be putting something fancy together soon enough!
