January Photowalk After Action Report
Posted on 24. Jan, 2009 by Terry Reinert in Photography
Today marked the January photowalk in downtown Eau Gallie and according to all reports it was a big success! No one got lost, hit by a car, chased out of a dive shop, or had any other bad thing happen to them so I feel pretty comfortable with putting up the Mission Accomplished banner! Total head count was 12 strong.

Once again this photowalk drove the point home that we each have a different view of the things that surround us. As the group was walking up St. Clair street towards the Eau Gallie Post Office I looked around and didn’t see anything of interest to me. I was about to turn around and start leading the group back down to the next area of the walk but noticed that most of the group was digging in to get some shots. So I hung out for a bit and finally crossed the street to join the bulk of them to see what they had found. On the side of a beautiful art studio they had found all sorts of interesting light fixtures, trees, and an assortment of other things. So I started shooting and got some pretty cool shots. So it just goes to show that if there hadn’t been others around I would have just left the area and missed out on a lot of cool shots!

Also while we were in the empty lot next to the art studio my daughter, who is really starting to get into photography, decided to start acting like the typical 9-year old… full of energy and just downright weird. That was also right about the time Vanelli recruiter her to model for a few shots. Its always fun to watch kids have a good time without a care in the world. Sometimes I wish I could just set aside everything and go back to that time when the evils of the world were not known to exist and you could dream big without reality delivering that upper cut that it so loves to do. I guess that is what I get out of the photo I took of her below that I processed in Adobe Lightroom 2.2 to get that dreamy surreal look… sitting in the grass under the blue sky listening to music and playing with a camera without a care in the world…

Onward we went down through the park, along the river, and then back up through the ending of a farmers market. Not much more to say other than it was great to see everyone again and also the few new faces that we had in the crowd. If anyone wants to lead the Febuary walk or has any ideas on where we should do it please speak up!

Don’t forget about the Photowalk Brevard Flickr Group. I set the group up for everyone to share some of the photos they take on the photowalks. I have also gotten into the habit of tagging them with “photowalkbrevard” to make them easier to find if anyone happens to be crazy enough to search on that tag name.
I also uploaded quite a few more photos I took on the photowalk to my Flickr Photostream. I finally hit the 200 photo limit and had to upgrade to a PRO account.

Oh, as one last word… I played with a different technique for capturing multiple exposures to merge into a HDR image during the walk. I have a lot of different scenes that I need to process in my HDR work flow. I will be playing with them a big and then posting the results as well as my thoughts on the new capture method sometime soon.
Thanks to all who participated in the photowalk. I had a great time and I am looking forward to the February walk!
