HDR Photo Contest
Posted on 07. Jan, 2009 by Terry Reinert in Photography
Ariea, the creator of the HDR processing software HDR MAX, is hosting a contest this month that will net the winner a brand new 15″ MacBook Pro! Its free to enter so put a helmet on and get in the game!!
The contest rules are pretty vague and leave a few questions unanswered… basically, use HDR MAX to process an HDR photo, name it the way they tell you, and email it to them in JPG format. Ok… well, can I crop the image, do some fancy Drawing With Light, or other spot adjustments in Adobe Photoshop after processing the image with HDR MAX? I sent them an email asking about it so I will post the answer if / when I get one.
In the mean time, read the rules and then get to work! You can download a 30-day free trial of HDR MAX to get you through the contest period. You have to submit your images (you can submit up to three) by January 31st, 2009.
I am going to write up a full review of the software once I get some more time playing with it. I already processed one image for the contest and I can tell you that HDR MAX has some pretty sweet features that Photomatix Pro does not. However, there are also a few things that bug me about it. Stay tuned… full review should be done and posted by the end of the week…

I’m interested to hear what you think of Ariea. It looks a bit more complicated than Photomatix, but some of the pictures I saw looked much more photo-realistic than I’ve been able to get with Photomatix. (Which I know you don’t do too much of), but you’re good at manipulating the programs from what I’ve seen of the other HDR’s you’ve done which are still pretty amazing (even if they are very Harry Potter-you can blame Scott Kelby for that phrase)
