Street Jazz

I had a photo shoot earlier this evening with Megan and despite the gear troubles the results look pretty promising so far. Its not that I had any major gear troubles… just the basic stuff like my Canon Speedlight 550 not wanting to fire in slave mode with the Canon Speedlight 580 mastering from on camera. I really need to spring for a set of Pocket Wizards so I can be rid of IR slaved flashes but the price tag is a bit high when I have my eyes on a lens that costs near $2000!

The evening turned out to be a good night to shoot though Megan may disagree. The temperature dipped down to around 55 degrees right after sunset…. right about when we got there to start shooting. She had on a nice red dress with no back and a whole lot of exposed skin! She had to be cold!

As for the post processing of the images pretty much everything was done in Adobe Lightroom 2.1. I did a lot of tweaking on the Camera RAW conversion and the curves. I also added some post cropping vignetting. Once everything was tweaked how I liked it I dropped it into Photoshop, did some small touch ups, and the final Unsharp Mask to wrap it up.

I was hoping to get some shots under a street light with the light spilling down around Megan but there was no good street light. I had brought a light along with us that I could use to simulate the street light but it would have been tough due to the lack of a good location. I am sure I could have come up with something but I think everyone (Nick and Heather were playing assistants on this shoot) was getting cold and tired of watching me wandering around talking to myself about where to hang a light. Maybe next time…
